What it means
IOERR means the data set or storage behind the resource gave an I/O error. On a shared temporary storage queue (RESP2 5) it means an unrecoverable I/O error; on WRITEQ TD the bad record is skipped.
This is usually a data set or system problem, not a program bug.
Typical causes
- A damaged or unavailable data set behind the file or queue.
- A hardware or channel problem.
- A failure in a shared temporary storage server.
How to fix it
- Check the CICS and z/OS logs for I/O error messages at the same time.
- Ask your storage or system team to check the data set.
- Code RESP (and RESP2) on the command and test the value with DFHRESP.
- Retry only after the underlying error is fixed.
