What it means

ROLLEDBACK tells the program its updates were rolled back. On LINK with SYNCONRETURN (RESP2 29), the server region could not take a sync point and backed out its changes.

The program must not assume the remote updates were saved.

Typical causes

  • The server program failed before its work could be committed.
  • A resource in the server region could not be committed.
  • A sync point failure in the remote region.

How to fix it

  1. Treat the remote work as not done and decide whether to retry.
  2. Check the server region's log for the reason the sync point failed.
  3. Code RESP (and RESP2) on the command and test the value with DFHRESP.
