What it means
An alias queue is only a pointer. Its target (TARGET, formerly BASEQNAME) must resolve to a real queue or topic. If it does not, MQOPEN or MQPUT1 fails with 2082. With clusters, the target can be a cluster queue that this queue manager cannot resolve, and REFRESH CLUSTER can trigger it too.
Typical causes
- The alias target name is wrong or the target queue was deleted.
- The target is a cluster queue that is not visible from this queue manager.
- The program sets ObjectQMgrName to a queue manager that does not host the target.
- A JMS queue has its queue manager property set when it should be empty.
How to fix it
- Display the alias with DISPLAY QALIAS(name) TARGET and check the target exists.
- For cluster targets, check DISPLAY QCLUSTER(name) on this queue manager.
- Leave ObjectQMgrName blank so clustering can choose; for JMS set the queue's QMANAGER property to empty.
- Use output-only open options for cluster queues hosted elsewhere.
Example
Illustrative only; names and values are invented.
MQOPEN failed CompCode=2 Reason=2082 Queue=APP.ALIAS.QUEUE
DISPLAY QALIAS(APP.ALIAS.QUEUE) TARGET
QUEUE(APP.ALIAS.QUEUE) TARGET(APP.MISSING.QUEUE)
