What it means
The name passed on connect does not match a queue manager the program can reach, or the parameter itself is bad. For clients it can mean a queue manager group name with no matching entry. On z/OS it has several adapter-specific causes, for CICS, IMS and batch.
Typical causes
- A typo or wrong case in the queue manager name, or the name of a different environment.
- A client channel table has no entry for the name or group the program asks for.
- On z/OS IMS, the CSQQDEFV table does not contain the name, has no default, or the wrong copy is loaded.
- On z/OS CICS, group resync is set but MQNAME holds a queue manager name instead of the queue sharing group name.
- On z/OS, one address space tries to connect through a different adapter type than an existing connection.
How to fix it
- Check the exact name the program passes, including case and padding.
- Use a blank name if the program should connect to the default queue manager.
- For clients, check the CCDT or connection settings for that name.
- On z/OS IMS, check which CSQQDEFV module is loaded and the library order in STEPLIB or JOBLIB.
- On z/OS CICS with group resync, put the queue sharing group name in MQNAME.
